Concert & Event Photos

Greetings and welcome!  The pages within contain my digital photos of recent concerts by ELO Part II, and ELO at the VH1 Storytellers taping on April 20, 2001, and the PBS taping of a full ELO concert on May 23, 2001!!!.  Most concert photos are taken without flash (flash pictures were quite unintentional) using the existing stage lighting.  So don't be disappointed if they aren't all crystal clear.  Obviously the Storytellers and PBS photos were taken with a flash.

The first show is from November 19, 1999, in Atlantic City, New Jersey .   This was Bev's next-to-last show before retiring from ELO Part II.  Unfortunately I couldn't go to the Saturday show (next night).  These photos have been reduced in size be cutting the number of colors and shooting smaller size than typical on the camera.

The second show was on June 1, 2000, in Charleston, South Carolina .  New camera and some experimentation here. All the photos are downsized to be more web-friendly (and to hide the poor quality).  The blurriness is my fault, see the explanation if you care!  These photos are much smaller and will load quickly, and should fit a single browser page without scrolling.

The third show was the show of a lifetime!  I was lucky enough to get a ticket to the taping of ELO's first concert in 15 years for an episode of VH1 Storytellers on April 20, 2001.  What was so special about this show, you ask?  This was ELO..I mean this was ELO with Jeff Lynne himself, playing some old stuff and new stuff from their upcoming release "Zoom".  I wasn't brave enough to take photos during the show...we were promised we'd be kicked out.  Not wanting to screw up this opportunity, I was a good boy!  So we'll have to settle for photos of the fans before and after the show, and a few shots of Jeff and his significant other (and backing vocalist for ELO!), Rosie Vela.  This was truly a great experience.  Richard Tandy was the only other former ELO member playing that night, and unfortunately he was a tad too fast for me to get a picture of.  Paul Leach very nicely sent me a photo of Richard that he took to help me round out the show!  Others that went have links to these already, and have posted them on their websites (sorry, no links here...too lazy).  So here they are (small version) ...  VH1 Storytellers!    If you want to see larger (1024x768) photos from Storytellers,  click here!

Oh, my!  Another "show of a lifetime".  On May 23, 2001, I was priviledged to attend ELO's first full concert, complete with a new "spaceship", as it was being filmed for broadcast on PBS in August 2001.  The taping was at CBS Television Studios in Los Angeles, California.  This turned out to be a fun day for me, essentially making a "day trip" from the east coast out of it.  All in all I was gone for only 24 hours, but it was well worth it!  Jeff Lynne's ELO performed 26 or so hits and new songs from the new CD "Zoom".  The photos from this event are again fan photos only, as security was VERY tight at the studio..basically everyone's camera (well most everyone) was confiscated and held until after the show by security.  Curses, foiled again!  So there are no concert photos, and I had to catch a redeye back east, so I couldn't hang around to take more photos of Jeff, Rosie, and hopefully Richard and the new band members, so fair warning ELO fans...these photos ain't that exciting unless you were at Canter's!  Click here to see the photos.

In 2002, two more wonderful shows, this time by the "band known as Orchestra".  Yes--Kelly, Mik, Lou and the boys are all back, this time with a great new CD ("No Rewind") and just as tight as ever!  I went to two shows back-to-back, the first being on May 31, 2002 at the State Theatre in Falls Church, VA .  What was great about this show was that I got to meet Kelly and Hux outside the theatre before the show, then the entire band afterwards!  What's not so great are the photos during the show.  It had been so long since I had shot low-light that I forgot what I was doing, so all the shots here are pretty dark.

The next night, 6/1/2002, it was off to the Recher Theatre in Towson, MD .

Hopefully much more to come from Jeff Lynne's ELO, with some actual concert photos!!!!!!!!
